Sunset magazine recently named San Luis Obispo one of the “20 Best Towns of the Future,” not for something futuristic but for SLO’s great food and sustainable food practices. San Luis Obispo is home to some of the best homemade cheeses, butter, chocolate, olive oil, wine and beer anywhere in the U.S. and the best part is that they are very accessible. From local weekly farmers' markets to farm stands to just farms that are open to visitors, you are always encouraged to get your food directly from the local grower.
San Luis Obispo is the perfect food vacation destination, whether you are a seasoned “foodie” or just want to do a little tasting. In San Luis Obispo, there are so many great events that bring these local foods right to you and pair them with local award-winning local wines.
This Spring is “Roll Out the Barrels,” the San Luis Obispo Vintners Association’s popular spring event, that brings the wine, winemakers, and SLO’s finest restaurants right to you in Downtown SLO’s Mission Plaza on April 29. The fun continues throughout the weekend with winemaker dinners at many of the San Luis Obispo restaurants and a two-day passport trip through the San Luis Obispo wine region with special wine tastings, wine tours, seminars and specials.
